Pumpkin Pride!!!

First things first, let it be known that this is Shawn making this post... Yes that's right the husband is making the post. Keep the jokes and mocking to yourselves.

So, this halloween we were really boring. I worked so we really couldn't go out and play with friends. On friday we did get together with the Morgan gang at Brett and Ashley's house, a good time was had. So on halloween (Laura pronounces it holloween) we decided to stay at home, pass out candy to the trick or treaters and carve pumpkins. Well, we only had two groups of trick or treaters, but we weren't too upset due to the candy excess we now enjoy.

As for the pumpkin carving, if any of you don't know me, I am super competitive. Anything I do has to be better than others. I have to win. So of course we couldn't share a pumpkin, we had to get our own pumpkins and have a competition. Laura is so good, she just goes along with it and takes the trash talk and is too nice to dish any back. We had a similar contest last Christmas concerning gingerbread houses. (I dominated in case you were wondering) Also another annoying trait I have is OCD. If I do something it has to be done well and it has to be done my way. So of course I go overboard with things like this. Also  one thing that many of you may know about me is my addiction to Duke Blue Devils Basketball. So of course I got my boys in blue involved. Laura tinkered on hers but didn't get way into it, she mainly just admired my dedication and took many pictures...

...and working...

Seeds!!! Laura seasoned and dried them and now we are enjoying them.

so by the time I got done it was really late and I was really tired and wasn't in the mood to take photos of the finished product til the next day, so in order to preserve it, I put it in the freezer. Of course Laura came in behind me and took a picture of it to document how much of a freak I am.

this is the piece of art I was trying to duplicate...

finished product.

This is Laura's finished product. (She is trying to win your hearts and your votes by being all family oriented. Don't fall for it, it's all a scam.)

Our pieces of art together. You may vote for the best pumpkin through your comments. (keep in consideration that Laura is an art major and I should have some sort of handicap... you know like in golf)

Laura sliced hers open with the intention to bake it and eat it like a squash. I've never heard of doing that. Is it good? I wouldn't let her get near mine with that knife. I'll probably put it back in the freezer to avoid rotting so it can be admired for years to come. Laura rolls her eyes and says differently.

  1. You people and your amazing pumpkins! What ever happened to triangles and toothy grins? They are both awesome, but aside from the obsessing, I would have to give you the nod Shawn. The blue devil looks halloweeny and still shows school pride!

  2. I love the pumpkins :) I like the carving you did, I never thought to just scratch on my pumpkin before. About eating it like a squash, it is good. I baked one to turn into pie and tasted it. It was yummy :)

  3. You guys crack me up. But you're right, Shawn, Laura got me with that sappy "family" thing. She wins my vote! Although I must say, you definitely should get a vote too for time and effort and outcome, it's beautiful. Ok, Ok, you both get my vote! Ha ha, I'm the mom, I can do that! (Besides, Dawni didn't really vote!) You tied us for trick-or-treaters: we only got two groups too! What losers we are!

  4. I have to admit that I like Laura's best. Sorry Shawn, yours is amazing but Laura's is better!
I didn't know about the baking the pumpkin thing until just a couple of days ago, my friend made a really yummy pumpkin cobbler type dessert. It was really good.

  5. This is Shawns dad, Shawn gets 1/2 vote for determination, Laura gets 1/2 vote for creative flair (together they barely make one vote) so its good they are learning to do things together. I think they should of gone out trick or treating so they could throw out the pumpkins and eat the candy

  6. Sorry Shawn....I have to go with Laura...I loved the Walker pumpkin with all the swirls, however, I am not a sports person, but you did a great job replicating that logo! Fun pumpkins!
